InnerVue Instrument for viewing Cartilage
Once in a while a new technique appears that promises to make diagnosis a lot easier.
The InnerVue scope ( from Arthrotek) may be one such new instrument. Under only local anesthesia, a very samll tube is put into the knee. It contains 17,000 fiberoptic channels, and is able to give a pretyy good picture of the joint. This may eliminate the need for MR scans,a nd give immediate visual information to help decide what therapy is needed. it also may be a great way to monitor cartilage repair.

I sometimes have a problem with walking and my joints in my hips pop all of the time. Could this be a sign of cartilage loss? I haven't been able to be recommened to orthpedics. What should I do?
Your blog is VERY helpful! I’m having a hard time finding helpful info on this topic. I’m a 28 year old athlete who needs a knee cartilage transplant. My Kaiser Permanente orthopedic surgeon has ACTUALLY referred me to a doctor OUTSIDE of Kaiser Permanente because he personally does not do the surgery NOR would he recommend anyone within Kaiser to do the surgery. This has me extremely concerned with the credibility of Kaiser surgeons. Why would he recommend this (knowing my insurance won’t cover anything outside of Kaiser) and is the surgery THAT difficult to perform? Should I be worried??? Not that my crumbling knee isn't enough to worry about! ; )
What kind of knee cartilage transplant is it? Is it ACI?

Yes, It would be an Autologous Chondrocyte transplant, directly under the kneecap. I have Post-traumatic arthritis. any info would help!
Sorry it has been a while- did Hilary have her transplant yet?
We should not comment about the credibility of (unknown) docs, but you might want to know that the orthopaedic research society meeting is in San Diego- your home town- this February,. Lots of info there.
Popping alone, without any pain, usually means that a muscle or ligament is snapping and making noise.
You should have an exam, but probably this is not serious.
