Cartilage Regeneration

Cartilage Regeneration
Orthopaedic Research Society
The ORS is to meet next week in San Diego for it Annual Meeting.
Expect many papers concerning stem cells, joint repair, cartilage
regeneration and growth factors. Many vendors use this meeting to bring
out new products. New forms of allograft material may be introduced this
year that are both safer and easier to use than prior techniques. Keep an eye on cell based
products that may be easier to deploy that older methods of ACI.

Theoretically that's a great idea. I understand that even Richard Branson is getting into cord blood banking. Any idea what the costs are?

I am 58 and two years ago was told I need a hip replacement for my right hip (now possibly even my left). I have been taking supplements only.
1) where are we in research to make cartilage regeneration possible for hip problems like mine?
2) Is there any trials going on now?
3) How long do you forsee, before cartilage regeneration might be available in place of hip surgery?

thank you, Laura

Dr. Norm

I am 58 and two years ago was told I need a right hip replacementnow possibly even the left). I have only been taking supplements, no meds and have not done any surgery yet. I just opened to this blog.

1)Where are we now with the possibility of cartilage regeneration for the hips? I cannot find any information anywhere. Would love to read more.
2) are there any trials currently being done?
3) how long before we can see something available for people like me who really don't want surgery.

Thank you, Laura

Check out www.regenexx.com (located in Colorado) for cartilage regeneration using autologous ( your own) stem cells derived from your own bone marrow.
